Herman Paul’s inaugural address as Professor of the History of the Humanities at Leiden University will take place on January 15, 2021. In his address, Paul will use the case of “critical thinking” to illustrate how a longued durée, comparative history of the humanities might look like – and what we can learn from such historical inquiry.
